PA-12 and PA-18 Precast Concrete Wall Panel Anchor

Since the introduction of the American Concrete Institute’s code requirement (ACI 318-14, 16.2.4.3(b)) to provide a pair of minimum 10,000 pounds tension connections between concrete wall panels and foundations, engineers have struggled to find a connection solution that was simple to design and detail, and economical to fabricate and install in the field. The struggle is over! The patented AdvanConn® Panel Anchor (PA) has met the challenge.

Precast companies are using the PA-12 or PA-18 when securing wall panels with the PC-10 to foundation is restricted due to the floor slab being in place.

PA-12 and PA-18 Features

The Precaster’s Advantage

  • Eliminates the necessity of a “pour-back strip”
  • Installed inside the building, from a hard, dry surface
  • Requires no welding
  • Average installation time of just 2 minutes
  • Installed immediately behind panel erection as the crane is repositioned
  • Easy to inspect
  • Supplied with Simpson ¾” x 10” Titen HD concrete anchor
  • PA Covers available to cap the connector
  • Drill cavity “breakaway” model is available for situations where the PA Cover does not suit the building’s needs

The Engineer’s Advantage

  • Exceeds ACI 318, providing 10,000 pounds of tensile capacity. Tested to 24,000 lbs; a Safety Factor of 2.4
  • Satisfies Seismic Design Capacities (SDC) “A” through “F”
  • Reduced eccentricity – load transfer path is closer to the neutral axis of the panel
  • Reduced edge distance – requirements for drill-in anchors allows for narrower grade beams

Eliminates engineer’s risk – concrete anchor installed within 6 degrees of perpendicular as specified by ACI 355.2 pull-out test criteria

Testimonials

“The AdvanConn® Panel Anchor (PA) has been an incredible labor savings for Nielsen Builders and is a better panel-to-foundation connection than any we have ever used. On a recent project, six guys installed the 114 anchors in three hours. We intend to use these products on every project from here on. The numbers speak for themselves. Great innovative products that just make sense!”

– Mark Stroupe, Nielsen Builders, Inc., Harrisonburg, VA

“Safety is – and will always drive – the selection of products we use in building/placing panels. I have to say without reservation having the set panel behind my crews secured with the AdvanConn® Panel Anchor (PA) is of great comfort. The panel that has just been set, braced, attached to the footing and released from the crane is in my opinion the greatest threat to the erection crew. Knowing the panel will not “walk” off its shim stack is key to our crews’ safety and their families. The fact that it saves time and money, is just a bonus!”

– Preston Rothwell, Kansas City, MO

Code Compliant

  • The AdvanConn® PA satisfies ACI Code requirements (ACI 318 [08] 16.5.1.3 sub-paragraph B) for 10,000 pounds nominal tension capacity for the connection of concrete panels to foundations. It may be installed using Simpson Strong-Tie, 3/4″ diameter Titen HD screw anchor with 6 3/4″ minimum nominal embedment depth in normal weight concrete, with approval of the engineer of record.
  • AdvanConn® PA satisfies design criteria for SDC “A” through “F” and can be modified to meet specific conditions for overturning forces due to wind loads.

AdvanConn® PA ensures that concrete anchors are installed within 6 degrees perpendicular to the connected concrete surface as required per anchor test and qualification criteria of ACI 355.2.

ADVISORY

Advisory: To prevent obstructions when drilling concrete anchors, avoid placement of top resteel in panel foundation area directly beneath panel. Note: The PA-12 is used when the distance between the top of footing and finished floor elevation is 12 inches or less. The PA-18 is used when the distance between top of footing and top of floor elevation is between 12 and 18 inches. Due to limitations on the availability of concrete drill bit lengths, the PA cannot be used when the distance between top of footing and finished floor elevation is greater than 18 inches. In those instances, we recommend using the PA-EX.
